Gustav regains hurricane strength
Tropical storm Gustav has reached hurricane strength again after battering Jamaica and killing at least 71 people in the Caribbean.
The hurricane had maximum winds of nearly 121km/h (75mph), the US National Hurricane Center said.
It hit Jamaica with heavy rains and strong winds, tearing roofs off houses.
It is forecast to hit the US early next week, prompting evacuation plans in New Orleans, three years after the city was hit by Hurricane Katrina.
New Orleans and coastal Mississippi have been holding commemorations of the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
New Orleans buried the last seven unclaimed bodies of Katrina at a memorial site on Friday.
"We look ahead to a better day, as we also prepare ourselves for another threat," said Mayor Ray Nagin at the funeral.

Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has refused to enter a plea to charges of war crimes at the United Nations tribunal in The Hague.
A tribunal judge entered a plea of not guilty to all charges on his behalf, in line with the rules of the court.
Mr Karadzic faces 11 counts, including genocide, relating to the 1990s Bosnian civil war.
He was arrested in the Serbian capital Belgrade in July after 13 years on the run, living under a false name.
Facing the tribunal for the second time since his arrest, and looking calm and composed, Mr Karadzic said it was a "court of Nato" which had as its aim his "liquidation".
"I've stopped using a false name so I think that all parties should do the same," he said.
The charges against Mr Karadzic include what is regarded as Europe's worst massacre since World War II - the killing of up to 8,000 men and youths in the enclave of Srebrenica.
There will be a further hearing on 17 September. No trial date has been set.

Darling warns of economic crisis
The UK is facing its worst economic crisis in 60 years, Chancellor Alistair Darling has admitted.
He told the Guardian newspaper that the economic downturn would be more "profound and long-lasting" than most people had feared.

Crash plane 'was almost swapped'
The airline involved in the Madrid plane crash had considered switching aircraft at the last minute, a Spanish government minister said.
Spanair flight JK 5022 was delayed for about an hour because of a problem with an air temperature gauge.
The aircraft crashed on 20 August, just after take-off, killing 154 people.
Magdalena Alvarez told a parliamentary panel that Spanair had "indicated to the airport the possibility of replacing the plane with another".
Ms Alvarez, the Spanish development minister, said Spanair "told the airport control centre that it had decided to continue with the plane... which is the one that crashed".
She was summoned before the Spanish Congress to testify on Spain's air safety procedures in the wake of the accident.
Spanair has not spoken publicly about having considered changing planes. A spokesman said the company could not discuss what had happened to the aircraft, because the accident was under judicial investigation.
However, it has previously insisted that the gauge problem had nothing to do with the crash.
The Spanish government has promised a full investigation into the crash, which is the country's worst air accident in 25 years.
Sources close to the investigation, quoted by the newspaper El Pais, say the plane may have lacked sufficient engine power during take-off.

Arctic ice 'is at tipping point'
Arctic sea ice has shrunk to the second smallest extent since satellite records began, US scientists have revealed.
The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) says that the ice-covered area has fallen below its 2005 level, which was the second lowest on record.
Melting has occurred earlier in the year than usual, meaning that the iced area could become even smaller than last September, the lowest recorded.
Researchers say the Arctic is now at a climatic "tipping point".
"We could very well be in that quick slide downwards in terms of passing a tipping point," said Mark Serreze, a senior scientist at the Colorado-based NSIDC.
"It's tipping now. We're seeing it happen now," he told the Associated Press news agency.

The area covered by ice on 26 August measured 5.26 million sq km (2.03 million sq miles), just below the 2005 low of 5.32 million sq km (2.05 million sq).
But the 2005 low came in late September; and with the 2008 graph pointing downwards, the NSIDC team believes last year's record could still be broken even though air temperatures, both in the Arctic and globally, have been lower than last year.
Last September, the ice covered just 4.13 million sq km (1.59 million sq miles), the smallest extent seen since satellite imaging began 30 years ago. The 1980 figure was 7.8 million sq km (3 million sq miles).Hackers prepare supermarket sweep

US GDP rebounds with 3.3% growth

The US economy grew at a revised 3.3% annually in the second quarter of 2008. The Commerce Department said, It is much higher than its first estimate of 1.9%.
